Episode 24: San Francisco Peaks and Food Not Bombs

This Horizontal Power Hour is hosted by Abe Bobman. The show features the regular “Action News” report with extended coverage on the resistance efforts being taken now in northern Arizona to prevent the destruction of the San Francisco Peaks by the U.S. Forest Service and the private ski resort Arizona Snowbowl. There is an interview with two environmental activists from Flagstaff, AZ taking part in these actions, Mary Sojourner (who was recently arrested) and Hailey Sherwood. The show also features interviews with two former Hartford Food Not Bombs organizers, Deric Shannon (co-editor of The Accumulation of Freedom: Writings on Anarchist Economics) and Meghan Quinn who discuss their experiences with Food Not Bombs and its relation to anarchism and activism. This edition of Horizontal Power Hour, hosted by Dan, features exciting action news, a “this date in anti-authoritarian history” segment, Meggie’s reading of Chrysto’s “They’re Always Telling Me I’m Too Angry” and calls in from Zaac Chaves and Deric Shannon.  Chrystos, a Menominee lesbian and Two-Spirit-identified poet, has received numerous awards for her writing.  Zaac Chaves, a prominent local forager, discusses winter ecology and his food justice collaborations with the Wassaic Community Farm. Deric Shannon is an anarchist sociologist, writer and co-founder of the North American Anarchist Studies Network. He recaps the Network’s recent conference and offers thoughts on the role of the academy in revolutionary initiatives.
